Forum on the Future of Education in Asia at Asia Society

The Forum on the Future of Education in Asia was a private dialogue of leaders from education, business, and policy to discuss connections between the educational investments and economic growth in Asia.

Tony Jackson, Vice President for Education at Asia Society pays tribute to TWF chair Jean Sung for thought leadership in education.

James Heckman, Professor of Economics at the University of Chicago and 2000 Nobel Laureate in Economics, commented that Hong Kong's intergenerational equality of opportunity lags behind other key economies.

Talking about education, he thinks that genetic IQ is not enough as multiple non-cognitive skills, which can be created by investment, matter as well. Parenting, mentoring, interactions with teachers and student groups are key to children's learning. For adolescents, mentoring is key. Workplace intervention also shapes non-cognitive skills.
