Given that half of the population will experience menopause at some point, we need to shift the menopause taboo from a personal health concern to a business imperative. At TWF, we’ve noted the potentially significant impact on overall workplace gender diversity and talent retention if unaddressed. We’ve also noted how stigma and lack of support can mean that many women don’t get the help they need, with implications for their overall quality of life.
But we know the menopause transition is not a uniform experience and without Hong Kong specific data, we cannot identify challenges or create targeted recommendations for employers and community stakeholders to support
This is why we are thrilled to be partnering with the University of Hong Kong’s School of Business to conduct a groundbreaking study on the impact of menopause at work.
Led by Professor Bonnie Hayden Cheng, we aim to understand what challenges menopausal individuals face at work, determine what factors mitigate this impact, and explore work implications for this understudied subset of the population.
We hope the research will contribute to breaking the taboo around menopause and lead to greater public acceptance, conversations and support. Ultimately, we aim to bridge the menopause awareness gap by equipping employers and broader stakeholders with targeted recommendations to support and empower this population to thrive in their workplace and beyond.
