Entries for the 2018 HK Human Rights Art Prize Now Open!
TWF is pleased to support the Hong Kong Human Rights Arts Prize 2018, organised by Justice Centre Hong Kong. Open to all Hong Kong-based and Hong Kong born visual artists, the HKHRAP invites creatives to submit work in any medium exploring the theme of local or international human rights.
The HKHRAP 2018 follows a record-breaking 2017 edition, which saw the highest number of entries and exhibition attendance in the history of the prize. In addition to playing a pivotal role in unearthing artistic talent in the city, the HKHRAP has successfully engaged the civic imagination and established itself as an important cultural platform in Hong Kong. Since its launch by Justice Centre Hong Kong in 2013, the HKHRAP has encouraged meaningful dialogue about the state of human rights both at home and abroad.
Winners of the HKHRAP 2018 will be announced at an exhibition opening featuring all shortlisted work on Saturday, 8 December, at The Hive Spring. A new platform for the arts in Hong Kong and backed by generous support from Spring Workshop, The Hive Spring offers sponsorship for selected artists and non-profit organisations. The winning artist of the HKHRAP 2018 will receive one of Asia’s most prestigious art award packages, with a cash prize of HKD35,000 and a trophy created by leading Hong Kong artist Jaffa Lam. Two runners-up will also receive cash prizes, each of which have been sponsored by a private donor.
A Directors’ Choice Award will also be awarded on the night. Entries are judged by a panel of noted experts from Hong Kong’s art and business community, including Claire Hsu, Co-Founder & Executive Director of Asia Art Archive (AAA), and Kacey Wong, a prominent Hong Kong-based artist. Hsu and Wong have both been advisors to the prize since inception in 2013.
Entry Period: Now through October 5, 2018
