Celebrating Powerful Female Leaders; Addressing Online Vulnerability

Celebrating Powerful Female Leaders

Fortune have published their 2020 Most Powerful Women International list, an annual compilation highlighting women with the greatest power and influence around the world. This year, in addition to the usual metrics of company size, career and influence, the list focused on how women were responding to the global crisis and driving business, and the world, for the better in this very unusual time.

It is important to shine a light on these influential, ambitious and diverse women to showcase their achievements but also to emphasise the progress that women have made at the top echelons of leadership. Over one-third of the 50 female leaders recognised hail from the Asia Pacific region, with those from Greater China comprising an impressive 24%. A newcomer to the list is Hong Kong’s own Laura Cha, Chair of Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing (HKEX). Cha was appointed chair of the HKEX in 2018, the first woman to take on the role. Since her appointment, HKEX has ranked among the top IPO venues, when measured by proceeds.

Addressing Online Vulnerability

Online and digital communications offer troubling ways of perpetrating sexual violence, and this has only increased during COVID-19, primarily affecting women and girls. There are many aspects of cybersexual violence and it continues to evolve into new, insidious forms.

Join us at TWF’s Cybersexual Violence Panel discussion on 29 October at 12.30pm. Moderated by Inti Tam | TWF, panellists Amber Hawkes | Facebook, Elizabeth LaCouture | HKU, and Bowie Lam | Teen's Key will explore this problem and the different forms it takes, as well as discuss gender-specific impacts and strategies we can use to intervene or support someone who is facing this issue.
