Women of the Year 2016

As 2016 draws to a close, at TWF we salute the many remarkable women who made history this year.

The FT's Women of the Year list includes late architectural legend Zaha Hadid, former US presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and British PM Theresa May, while flying the flag for HK and China, we have Jean Liu - President of Didi Chuxing. More controversial female figures include troubled President Park of South Korea, ousted Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff and Donald Trump's campaign manager Kellyanne Conway. Other women on the list include Olympic gymnast Simone Biles, cultural icon Beyonce and queen of baking Mary Berry.

Meanwhile, the BBC's 100 Women 2016 list spotlights inspirational and influential women from some of the world's biggest names to other lesser-known heroines who are doing astonishing things. The list recognises two women from Hong Kong - Chan Yuen-ting, the first female football manager in the world to lead a men's team to a domestic top-flight league title, and singer/pro-democracy campaigner Denise Ho.

Finally, Madonna was named Billboard's Woman of the Year at an award ceremony last Friday. In her acceptance speech, she had an inspiring message for women everywhere: "As women, we have to start appreciating our own worth and each other's worth. Seek out strong women to befriend, to align yourself with, to learn from, to collaborate with, to be inspired by, to support, and be enlightened by."

From all of us at TWF, our heartfelt thanks for all your support in 2016 and we look forward to another exciting year ahead.

Warm wishes for the holidays!
